Droppings

We've been pretty terrible about feeding the rats lately so I don't have any appropriate things to post. But I wanna keep this sucker alive so I'm going to kick it in the shins with some doodles I've done the last day or so. The first is a fat Ninja Turtle head scribble. I tend to do a lot of these as you'll find out soon enough. The second is a WIP of an illustration I'm working on for Ghost Legion Studio's new game, "End." Hoping to wrap that up this week so scope out my website, ryanbowlin.com, for more info!

Now get to posting, Render Rats! We need a new direction! It's time to start thinking of some new story elements to scribble.

Pirate Owl

Man, I've been terrible about updating the last few weeks. For fear of the beating Enrique may give me I'm uploading this random iPad sketch. Enjoy!

Wayward the frog

The wayward traveling poison frog...
After accidentally taking the life of his one true love,
he travels the land far and wide for deeper meaning.
A frog in a desert? what?

Samurai Frog

For my contribution this week I bring you... Samurai Frog!

I tried some new things with this image starting with the brush pen. I still feel like I botched it up a lot but I gave it a go. Might try to use it a bit more often in order to make myself draw faster. There's definitely no time to mess around when it comes to brush inks. And even the color work was a bit different that I usually like to work.

The results were kinda lackluster but I learned a bit for next time. That's what counts, eh? Hope you guys like 'em.

Ratrocity

Here is the devious mechanical wizard, Ratrocity. He should probably look more evil, and more mechanical...

Noeble the Froggy

Here is our hero.
Will our little froggy win?
I am Glenn, Haiku!

His name is Noeble!  The night got away from me and I wasn't left with much time, but here's a little bit of character exploration for now, kinda deciding on a look and style.  I'll continue with more later in the week.

FROGFACE

Don't panic Ryan! I'm here. Hey guys, My name is Enrique Rivera, and I'm the artist for the weekly webcomic http://www.bananasandbinary.com . I finaly had a chance to doodle something up for the blog. I don't play with color as much as I used to, so I figured I spend a little extra time on the drawing, just to not loose the habit.

Below is a hero Frog who doesn't have a name, you can go ahead and come up with one if you want.
I came up with a dumb 90's cartoon pitch, just to have some motivation, and an idea of what the character could be. Fun STUFF!

- “After his brother gets gravely sick from the poisonous waters spilling out of the neighboring castle, a Frog decides to take matters into his own hands, and goes on a journey up the colossal staircase, to put an end to RATTROCITY the evil RAT wizard, and his reign of toxic terror.”

We had a few topics for the Blog, but It seems to be kinda random at the moment. Which is fine, since the main purpose of the blog is just to keep us drawing outside of work. Hope to see you every week!

I'm All Shook Up

Hey Rats! Welcome to the Render Rat Sketch Blog!

I was hoping not to be the first poster but it seems someone has to kick off these shenanigans! I'll let Enrique fill our future audience in on what sort of things we have in store for them via this blog. But this week we're just offering up an introduction of sorts for each artist via a scribble we managed to shake out this week.

My name is Ryan Bowlin and I present to you this fantastically disgusting ballpoint pen sketch of Zombie Elvis. I currently live in Chicago, IL and have worked in the games industry creating all manner of art for the last six years or so. You'll usually find me scratching out gelatinous, thick necked, grotesque things for fun. I suppose I just relate to them as a man of girth myself. ;o)

If you're interested in learning what makes me tick or seeing more of my art you can find a portal to my madness via www.ryanbowlin.com!

Thanks for stopping in and MAY THE RAT RENDERING BEGIN! Ha!
